LUSCIOUS NEW COLOURS LIGHT UP THE RITRATTO UNIVERSE POMELLATO DIVES INTO THE WORLD OF MINERAL GEMS WITH A TEMPTING ARRAY OF NEW RITRATTO JEWELS

Created to celebrate Pomellato’s 50th anniversary, the success of the Ritratto collection has made it a permanent presence in the Milan jeweller’s collections. With the same audacity and upending of convention that led founder Pino Rabolini, in 1967, to create his first jewels for a new generation of liberated women, Pomellato’s design studio continues to defy the norm as it explores a new kind of precious.

Ritratto, which means portrait in Italian, is a frame for Mother Nature’s genius. The large, flat cut reveals the mesmerising patterns and beguiling inclusions that speak of the stones’ mysterious creation millions of years ago, deep in the heart of our planet. Continuing from the 2017 collection, three rings in pink chalcedony, rhodonite and carnelian, are added to the growing Ritratto family. The new rings are presented in mouth-watering, temptingly juicy colours. A peachy-pink chalcedony is enhanced by a dusting of sugar-sweet rosy spinels; a glossy mango-orange carnelian stone is rendered even more vivid by orange sapphires; and a refreshing watermelon-rose rhodonite shines brighter thanks to an accompaniment of deep red spinels.

The cut of the stones is based on the early 19th century flat diamond cuts that were often placed over miniature portraits and worn as jewels. Today, Pomellato revisits this historic cut for a new generation. Each Ritratto jewel showcases a hard stone shaped in a distinctive square cut, with subtle top facets. Two oversized claws curve over the corners of each stone, as if they have grown organically from the voluptuous, smooth rose gold shank. One claw is set with a pavé of gemstones, adding a vibrant sparkle that complements the rich colours of the hard stones.
